WASTE MANAGEMENT

The oil extracted from the olives represents 15% to 20% of their mass. The rest of the mass is not used to produce oil, but rather can be used for different purposes:
  • Fuel for boilers: The olive pomace (pulp) is transformed into pellets before being used as fuel, while the stone can be used directly in boilers.
  • Soil fertilizer : Compost from olive pomace is used as a natural fertilizer, helping to improve soil fertility and crop productivity.
  • Other waste processing : After the olive pruning period following the harvest, a company is responsible for recovering wood branches and olive leaves, processing and reselling them.
ALMOST ALL ELEMENTS FROM OLIVE OIL PRODUCTION ARE REUSED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY. POMACE AND STONE ARE REUSED WITHIN THE PLANTATION, WHILE BRANCHES AND LEAVES ARE SOLD TO A THIRD-PARTY COMPANY.

RESPECT OF THE ENVIRONMENT

We have implemented environmentally-friendly farming practices to minimize the risk of land and air pollution:
  • Reasoned use of water : The drip irrigation system ensures precise distribution of water to plant roots, while minimizing losses through evaporation.
  • Natural fertilizers : The use of pomace compost and animal manure in the soil as natural fertilizers reduces the risk of soil and water pollution.
  • Renewable energies : Solar panels on our olive estates are a key element of our commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

THESE PRACTICES GUARANTEE THE SUSTAINABILITY OF OUR OLIVE OIL PRODUCTION, PRESERVING OUR ENVIRONMENT AND REDUCING OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOSSIL FUELS WHILE MINIMIZING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

INVOLVMENT WITH THE LOCAL POPULATION

Our company has a strong commitment to small local producers, with whom we work closely on several fronts:
  • Harvesting assistance : We lend our straddle harvester to local producers to help them harvest their olives and improve the quality of their oil.
  • Oil crushing and storage : We offer local players the opportunity to crush their olives in our crushing plant, and store their oil in our stainless steel tanks.
  • Sharing best practices : Throughout the year, we advise small local producers on how to improve their production, plantation management, harvesting and promotion practices.
  • Option to buy olives : We give local players the option, if they wish, to sell us the olives from their production at a fair and equitable price.
OUR AIM IS TO STRENGTHEN LOCAL PLAYERS’ ABILITY TO PRODUCE HIGH QUALITY OLIVE OIL WHILE IMPROVING THEIR ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL SITUATION
